(c) 2

(d) 3

Match the Columns

Answer Q. 52, Q. 53 and Q. 54 by appropriately matching the information given in the three columns of the following table.

The wave function, $\psi _n, l, m _l$ is a mathematical function whose value depends upon spherical polar coordinates $(r, \theta, \phi)$ of the electron and characterised by the quantum number $n, l$ and $m _l$. Here $r$ is distance from nucleus, $\theta$ is colatitude and $\phi$ is azimuth. In the mathematical functions given in the Table, $Z$ is atomic number and $a _0$ is Bohr radius.

Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: 51. (c)

Solution:

  1. In $S _2$ state, $E\left(Li^{2+}\right)=K$ (given)

$$ \begin{array}{rlrl} & & K & =\frac{q k}{n^{2}} \ \Rightarrow \quad & n & =3 \end{array} $$

Since, $S _2$ has one radial node.

$$ \begin{aligned} 3-l-1 & =1 \ l & =1 \end{aligned} $$
