The wave function, $ψ_{n}, l, m_{l}$ is a mathematical function whose value depends upon spherical polar coordinates $(r, θ, ϕ)$ of the electron and characterised by the quantum number $n, l$ and $m_{l}$ . Here $r$ is distance from nucleus, $θ$ is colatitude and $ϕ$ is azimuth. In the mathematical functions given in the Table, $Z$ is atomic number and $a_{0}$ is Bohr radius.

Solution:

In $S_{2}$ state, $E (L i^{2 +}) = K$ (given)

$\begin{aligned} K & = \frac{q k}{n^{2}} \Rightarrow & n & = 3 \end{aligned}$

Since, $S_{2}$ has one radial node.

$\begin{aligned} 3 - l - 1 & = 1 l & = 1 \end{aligned}$
