Ring- $(A)$ is activated, i.e. becomes more nucleophilic by the $+R$ effect of the $-\ddot{N} H-$ group and it becomes $o / p$-directing towards the electrophile, $NO _2^{+}$in the $ArS _E 2$ reaction.
