Question-

Directions : Read the following paragraph carefully and answer the questions given below:

A construction concern has given the details about the number of days taken by five different workers $P, M, V, S$ and $T$ to complete two different works (Work 1 and Work 2). Work 1 is completed by P, M, V, S and T in 7 days, 8 days, 6 days, 5 days and 10 days respectively. Work 2 is completed by $P, M, V, S$ and $T$ in 5 days, 6 days, 8 days, 7 days and 5 days respectively.

If 8 hours are taken per day, then how many hours approximately are needed to complete $\frac{3}{5}$ th of work 1 by the $M, V$ and $S$ working together?

(1) 9 hours and 6 minutes

(2) 10 hours and 36 minutes

(3) 9 hours and 36 minutes

(4) 8 hours and 45 minutes

(5) 10 hours and 16 minutes

Show Answer

Answer: (3)

Solution: (3)

Time taken by $M, V$ and $S$

$=$ $1 \div\left(\frac{1}{8}+\frac{1}{6}+\frac{1}{5}\right)$

$=1 \div\left(\frac{15+20+24}{120}\right)$

$=1 \div \frac{59}{120}=\frac{120}{59}$ $\approx 2$ days

$\therefore$ Time taken for $\frac{3}{5}$ th of work $=\frac{3 \times 2}{5}=1.2$ days

$=9.6$ hours $=9$ hours $36$ min.

$\frac{3}{5}$ th of work $1=2 \times \frac{3}{5}=1.2$

$\Rightarrow 9.6 $ hours

$\Rightarrow 9$ hours 36 minutes
