The specific heat of gas at constant volume in terms of degree of freedom n is

$ C _{v}=\frac{n}{2}R $ Also $ C _{p}-C _{v}=R $ So

$ C _{p}=\frac{n}{2}R+R=R( 1+\frac{n}{2} ) $ Now,

$ \gamma =\frac{C _{p}}{C _{v}}=\frac{R( 1+\frac{n}{2} )}{\frac{n}{2}R}=\frac{2}{n}+1 $
