(b) $6.8 eV$

(c) $10.2 eV$

(d) 0

Answer:

Correct Answer: 27. (c)

Solution:

  1. (c) When the electron is in first excited state $(n=2)$, the excitation energy is given by

$\Delta E=E_2-E_1$

We have, $E_n=-\frac{13.6}{n^{2}} eV$

$\therefore E_2=-\frac{13.6}{2^{2}} eV=-3.4 eV$

Given $E_1=-13.6 eV$

$\therefore \Delta E=(-3.4)-(-13.6)=10.2 eV$.
