Alternating Current - Result Question 5

5. In an ac circuit an alternating voltage e $=200$ $\sqrt{2} \sin 100 t$ volts is connected to a capacitor of capacity $1 \mu F$. The r.m.s. value of the current in the circuit is

(a) $10 mA$

(b) $100 mA$

(c) $200 mA$

(d) $20 mA$

Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: 5. (d)

Solution:

  1. (d) $V _{rms}=\frac{200 \sqrt{2}}{\sqrt{2}}=200 V$

$I _{rms}=\frac{V _{rms}}{X_C}=\frac{\frac{200}{1}}{100 \times 10^{-6}}$

$=2 \times 10^{-2}=20 mA$
