Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry - Result Question 52

####52. Liquid benzene (C6H6) burns in oxygen according to the equation

2C6H6(l)+15O2(g)12CO2(g)+6H2O(g)

How many litres of O2 at STP are needed to complete the combustion of 39g of liquid benzene? (Mol. wt. of O2=32,C6H6=78 )

(a) 74L

(b) 11.2L

(c) 22.4L

(d) 84L

Show Answer

Solution:

  1. (d) 2C6H6+15O2(g)12CO2(g)+6H2O(g) 2(78) 15(32)

156g of benzene, required oxygen =15×22.4 litre

1g of benzene, required oxygen =15×22.4156 litre

39g of benzene, required oxygen

=15×22.4×39156=84.0 litre
