Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry - Result Question 48

####48. Concentrated aqueous sulphuric acid is 98 H2SO4 by mass and has a density of 1.80gmL1. Volume of acid required to make one litre of 0.1M H2SO4 solution is

[2007]

(a) 16.65mL

(b) 22.20mL

(c) 5.55mL

(d) 11.10mL

Show Answer

Solution:

  1. (c) Molarity of H2SO4 solution

=98×100098×100×1.80=18.0

Suppose VmL of this H2SO4 is used to prepare 1 lit. of 0.1MH2SO4

V×18.0=1000×0.1

or V=1000×0.118.0=5.55mL.
