Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry - Result Question 22

####21. Haemoglobin contains $0.334 %$ of iron by weight. The molecular weight of haemoglobin is approximately 67200 . The number of iron atoms (at. wt. of $Fe$ is 56) present in one molecule of haemoglobin are

(a) 1

(b) 6

(c) 4

(d) 2

Solution:

  1. (c) Given : Percentage of the iron $=0.334 %$; Molecular weight of the haemoglobin $=67200$ and atomic weight of iron $=56$. We know that the number of iron atoms

$=\frac{\text{ Molecular wt. of haemoglobin } \times % \text{ of iron }}{100 \times \text{ Atomic weight of iron }}$

$=\frac{67200 \times 0.334}{100 \times 56}=4$
