####60. A compound is treated with $N a N H_{2}$ to give sodium salt. Identify the compound

(a) $C_{2} H_{2}$

(b) $C_{6} H_{6}$

(c) $C_{2} H_{6}$

(d) $C_{2} H_{4}$ .

Solution:

(a) Only $C_{2} H_{2}$ (acetylene) has acidic $H$ -atoms and hence reacts with $N a N H_{2}$ to form sodium salt, i.e.,

$H C \equiv C H + N a N H_{2} ⟶ H C \equiv C N a + N H_{3}$ .
