####60. A compound is treated with $NaNH_2$ to give sodium salt. Identify the compound
(a) $C_2 H_2$
(b) $C_6 H_6$
(c) $C_2 H_6$
(d) $C_2 H_4$.

Show Answer
Solution:
- (a) Only $C_2 H_2$ (acetylene) has acidic $H$-atoms and hence reacts with $NaNH_2$ to form sodium salt, i.e.,
$HC \equiv CH+NaNH_2 \longrightarrow HC \equiv CNa+NH_3$.
