Show Answer

Solution:

  1. (a) Addition of $HCl$ to propene even in the presence of benzoyl peroxide occurs according to Markovnikov’s rule :

$CH_3-CH=CH_2 \xrightarrow[(C_6 H_5 CO)_2 O_2]{HCl}$

$CH_3-CHCl-CH_3$

Peroxide effect is observed only in case of $HBr$.
