Solution:

  1. (a) Given : Hydroxyl ion concentration [OH−]=0.05molL−1. We know that the

[H+][OH−]=1×10−14

or [H+]=1×10−140.05=2×10−13molL−1

Since [OH−]>[H+]

Therefore the solution is basic.
