Electrochemistry - Result Question 48

####50. Which reaction is not feasible?

[2002]

(a) $2 KI+Br_2 \to 2 KBr+I_2$

(b) $2 KBr+I_2 \to 2 KI+Br_2$

(c) $2 KBr+Cl_2 \to 2 KCl+Br_2$

(d) $2 H_2 O+2 F_2 \to 4 HF+O_2$

Show Answer

Solution:

  1. (b) $2 KBr+I_2 \longrightarrow 2 KI+Br_2$ reaction is not possible because $Br^{-}$ion is not oxidised to $Br_2$ with $I_2$ due to higher electrode (oxidation) potential of $I_2$ than bromine.
