Electrochemistry - Result Question 21

####22. How many grams of cobalt metal will be deposited when a solution of cobalt (II) chloride is electrolyzed with a current of 10 amperes for 109 minutes (1 Faraday =96,500C; Atomic mass of Co=59u)

[NEET Kar: 2013]

(a) 0.66

(b) 4.0

(c) 20.0

(d) 40.0

Show Answer

Solution:

  1. (c) Applying,

w= Zit = Eit 96500

Equivalent weight of cobalt (II) =59/2

I=10A

Time (t)=109min=109×60sec

Substituting these values we get,

w=59×10×109×602×96500=20.0
