Amines - Result Question 26

####28. On hydrolysis of a “compound”, two compounds are obtained. One of which on treatment with sodium nitrite and hydrochloric acid gives a product which does not respond to iodoform test. The second one reduces Tollen’s reagent and Fehling’s solution. The “compound” is

[NEET Kar. 2013]

(a) $CH_3 CH_2 CH_2 CON(CH_3)_2$

(b) $CH_3 CH_2 CH_2 NC$

(c) $CH_3 CH_2 CH_2 CN$

(d) $CH_3 CH_2 CH_2 ON=O$

Show Answer

Solution:

  1. (b) Hydrolysis of propyl isocyanide $(CH_3 CH_2 CH_2 NC)$ gives $CH_3 CH_2 CH_2 NH_2+$ $HCOOH$.

On treatment with $NaNO_2$ and $HCl$ (I) gives $CH_3 CH_2 CH_2 OH$ which does not give iodoform test. II $(HCOOH)$ reduces Tollen’s reagent and Fehling’s solution.

$CH_3 CH_2 CH_2 NC \xrightarrow{H_2 O}$
