Respiration in Plants Question 36

36. All enzymes of TCA cycle are located in the mitochondrial matrix except one which is located in inner mitochondrial membranes in eukaryotes and in cytosol in prokaryotes. This enzyme is

[2007]

(a) isocitrate dehydrogenase

(b) malate dehydrogenase

(c) succinate dehydrogenase

(d) lactate dehydrogenase.

Show Answer

Answer : c

Hints & Solutions

(c) Succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) or succinate-coenzyme $Q$ reductase (SQR) or respiratory Complex II is an enzyme complex, found in many bacterial cells and in the inner mitochondrial membrane of eukaryotes. It is the only enzyme that participates in both the citric acid cycle and the electron transport chain. Succinate dehydrogenase catalyses the oxidation of succinate to fumarate in the citric acid cycle by simultaneously reducing ubiquinone to ubiquinol in the electron transport chain.
