Chemical Kinetics Question 5
Question 5 - 2024 (29 Jan Shift 1)
For a reaction taking place in three steps at same temperature, overall rate constant $K=\frac{K _1 K _2}{K _3}$. If $Ea _1, Ea _2$ and $Ea _3$ are 40,50 and $60 kJ / mol$ respectively, the overall $Ea$ is _______ $kJ / mol$.

Answer (30)
Solution
$K=\frac{K _1 \cdot K _2}{K _3}=\frac{A _1 \cdot A _2}{A _3} \cdot e^{-\frac{\left( E _{a _1}+E _{a _2}-E _{a _3}\right)}{R T}}$
$A \cdot e^{-E _a / R T}=\frac{A _1 A _2}{A _3} \cdot e^{-\frac{\left(E _{a _1} +E _{a _2}-E a _3\right)}{R T}}$
$E _a=E _{a _1}+E _{a _2}-E _{a _3}=40+50-60=30 kJ / mole$
