Structure Of Atom Question 10
Question 10 - 30 January - Shift 2
The wave function $(\Psi)$ of $2 s$ is given by
$\Psi _{2 s}=\frac{1}{2 \sqrt{2 \pi}}(\frac{1}{a_0})^{1 / 2}(2-\frac{r}{a_0}) e^{-r / 2 a_0}$
At $r=r_0$, radial node is formed. Thus, $r_0$ in terms of $a_0$
(1) $r_0=a_0$
(2) $r_0=4 a_0$
(3) $r_0=\frac{a_0}{2}$
(4) $r_0=2 a_0$
Show Answer
Answer: (4)
Solution:
Formula: Radial Nodes
At node $\Psi _{2 s}=0$
$\therefore 2-\frac{r_0}{a_0}=0$
$\therefore r_0=2 a_0$
