Coordination Compounds Question 14
Question 14 - 30 January - Shift 2
$1 L, 0.02 M$ solution of $[Co(NH_3)_5 SO_4] Br$ is mixed with 1L, $0.02 M$ solution of $[Co(NH_3)_5 Br] SO_4$. The resulting solution is divided into two equal parts (X) and treated with excess $AgNO_3$ solution and $BaCl_2$ solution respectively as shown below:
$1 L$ Solution $(X)+AgNO_3$ solution (excess) $\to Y$
$1 L$ Solution $( X)+BaCl_2$ solution (excess) $\to Z$
The number of moles of $Y$ and $Z$ respectively are
(1) $0.02,0.02$
(2) $0.01,0.01$
(3) $0.02,0.01$
(4) $0.01,0.02$
Show Answer
Answer: (2)
Solution:
Formula: Werners theory
$[Co(NH_3)_5 SO_4] Br+AgNO_3 \to AgBr \downarrow$
$\quad \quad 0.01 mol \quad$ excess $\quad 0.01 Mol$
$[Co(NH_3)_5 Br] SO_4+BaCl_2 \to BaSO_4 \downarrow$
$\quad\quad 0.01 mol\quad$ excess $\quad 0.01 Mol$
