JEE Main On 16 April 2018 Question 24
Question: Suppose that the angular velocity of rotation of earth is increased. Then, as a consequence. [JEE Main 16-4-2018]
Options:
A) There will be no change in weight anywhere on the earth
B) Weight of the object, everywhere on the earth, will decrease
C) Weight of the object, everywhere on the earth, will increase
D) Except at poles, weight of the object on the earth will decrease
Show Answer
Answer:
Correct Answer: D
Solution:
Effect of angular velocity on acceleration due to gravity is given by
$ g^{0}=g-{{\omega }^{2}}R\cos \theta $ so with increase in the decreases
but at poles $ \theta =90^{o};cos\theta =0 $ so $ g^{0}=g $
