3. A plane which bisects the angle between the two given planes 2xy+2z4=0 and x+2y+2z2=0, passes through the point

Solution:

 Key Idea Equation of planes bisecting the angles between the  planes a1x+b1y+c1z+d1=0 and a2x+b2y+c2z+d2=0, are a1x+b1y+c1z+d1a12+b12+c12=±a2x+b2y+c2z+d2a22+b22+c22

Equation of given planes are

 and 2xy+2z4=0x+2y+2z2=0

Now, equation of planes bisecting the angles between the planes (i) and (ii) are

2xy+2z44+1+4=±x+2y+2z21+4+42xy+2z4=±(x+2y+2z2)

On taking (+ve) sign, we get a plane

x3y=2

On taking ( ve) sign, we get a plane

3x+y+4z=6

Now from the given options, the point (2,4,1) satisfy the plane of angle bisector 3x+y+4z=6
