  1. In neutral or faintly alkaline solution, $MnO _4^{-}$is reduced to $MnO _2$ and $S _2 O _3^{2-}$ is oxidised to $SO _4^{2-}$.

Thus, $4 MnO _4^{-}+\frac{3}{2} S _2 O _3^{2-} \longrightarrow 3 SO _4^{2-}+4 MnO _2$ or $8 MnO _4^{-}+3 S _2 O _3^{2-} \longrightarrow 6 SO _4^{2-}+8 MnO _2$

Thus, moles of $SO _4^{2-}$ formed by 8 moles of $MnO _4^{-}=6$
