$(1988,1 M)$

(a) at the centre of the tube

(b) near the hydrogen chloride bottle

(c) near the ammonia bottle

(d) throughout the length of the tube

Show Answer

Solution:

  1. $HCl$ will diffuse at slower rate than ammonia because rate of effusion $\propto \frac{1}{\sqrt{M}}$.

Therefore, ammonia will travel more distance than $HCl$ in the same time interval and the two gas will first meet nearer to $HCl$ end.
