Solution:

Metal $(A)$ is rubidium $(R b)$ . In excess of air, it forms $R b O_{2} (X)$ . $X$ is a superoxide that have $O_{2}^{-}$ ion. It is due to the stabilisation of large anion by large cations through lattice energy effects. $R b O_{2} (X)$ gets easily hydrolysed by water to form the hydroxide, $H_{2} O_{2}$ and $O_{2}$ .

The reaction involved are as follows:

$\begin{aligned} R b + O_{2} ⟶ \underset{(X)}{R b O_{2}} (superoxide) & \underset{(X)}{2 R b O_{2} + 2 H_{2} O} ⟶ 2 R b O H + H_{2} O_{2} + O_{2} \end{aligned}$
