pBlock ElementsII 1 Question 100
96. Explain the following
$(1989,2 M)$
(i) $\mathrm{H} _{3} \mathrm{PO} _{3}$ is a dibasic acid.
(ii) Phosphine has lower boiling point than ammonia.
Show Answer
Solution:
- (i) In $\mathrm{H} _{3} \mathrm{PO} _{3}$, there is only two replaceable $\mathrm{H}$, hence dibasic
(ii) $\mathrm{NH} _{3}$ molecules are associated by intermolecular $\mathrm{H}-$ bonds.
