Solution:

  1. Heating iron in stream of dry chlorine gas gives $FeCl _3$ in anhydrous form. In all other cases $\left(a\right.$ and $c$ ) hydrated $FeCl _3$ is obtained while in $(d), FeCl _2$ is formed.
