Coordination Compounds 1 Question 25

####25. The volume (in mL ) of 0.1MAgNO3 required for complete precipitation of chloride ions present in 30mL of 0.01M solution of [Cr(H2O)5Cl2]Cl2, as silver chloride is close to

(2011)

Show Answer

Solution:

  1. mmol of complex =30×0.01=0.3

Also, 1 mole of complex [Cr(H2O)5Cl2]Cl2 gives only two moles of chloride ion when dissolved in solution

[Cr(H2O)5Cl]Cl2[Cr(H2O)5Cl2++2Cl

mmol of Clion produced from its 0.3mmol=0.6

Hence, 0.6mmol of Ag+would be required for precipitation.

0.60mmol of Ag+=0.1M×V( in mL)V=6mL
