Current Electricity Question 19

Question 19 - 2024 (30 Jan Shift 1)

Two cells are connected in opposition as shown. Cell $\mathrm{E}{1}$ is of $8 \mathrm{~V}$ emf and $2 \Omega$ internal resistance; the cell $\mathrm{E}{2}$ is of $2 \mathrm{~V}$ emf and $4 \Omega$ internal resistance. The terminal potential difference of cell $\mathrm{E}_{2}$ is:

Show Answer

Answer: (6)

Solution:

$I=\frac{8-2}{2+4}=\frac{6}{6}=1 \mathrm{~A}$

Applying Kirchhoff from C to B

$V_{C}-2-4 \times 1=V_{B}$

$V_{C}-V_{B}=6 \mathrm{~V}$

$=6 \mathrm{~V}$
