Ionic Equilibrium Question 1
Question 1 - 2024 (01 Feb Shift 1)
$\mathrm{K}{\mathrm{a}}$ for $\mathrm{CH}{3} \mathrm{COOH}$ is $1.8 \times 10^{-5}$ and $\mathrm{K}{\mathrm{b}}$ for $\mathrm{NH}{4} \mathrm{OH}$ is $1.8 \times 10^{-5}$. The $\mathrm{pH}$ of ammonium acetate solution will be
Show Answer
Answer (7)
Solution
$\mathrm{pH}=\frac{\mathrm{pK}{\mathrm{w}}+\mathrm{pK}{\mathrm{a}}-\mathrm{pK}_{\mathrm{b}}}{2}$
$\mathrm{pK}{\mathrm{a}}=\mathrm{pK}{\mathrm{b}}$
$\Rightarrow \mathrm{pH}=\frac{\mathrm{pK}_{\mathrm{w}}}{2}=7$
