Haloalkanes And Haloarenes Question 13

Question 13 - 2024 (31 Jan Shift 2)

The correct order of reactivity in electrophilic substitution reaction of the following compounds is :

A

B

C

(1) $\mathrm{B}>\mathrm{C}>\mathrm{A}>\mathrm{D}$

(2) $\mathrm{D}>\mathrm{C}>\mathrm{B}>\mathrm{A}$

(3) $\mathrm{A}>\mathrm{B}>\mathrm{C}>\mathrm{D}$

(4) $\mathrm{B}>\mathrm{A}>\mathrm{C}>\mathrm{D}$

Show Answer

Answer (4)

Solution

Formula: Electrophilic Substitution Reaction

$-\mathrm{CH}_{3}$ shows $+\mathrm{M}$ and $+\mathrm{I}$.

$-\mathrm{Cl}$ shows $+\mathrm{M}$ and $-\mathrm{I}$ but inductive effect dominates.

$-\mathrm{NO}_{2}$ shows $-\mathrm{M}$ and $-\mathrm{I}$.

Electrophilic substitution $\alpha \frac{1}{-\mathrm{M} \text { and -I }}$

$\alpha+\mathrm{M}$ and $+\mathrm{I}$

Hence, order is $\mathrm{B}>\mathrm{A}>\mathrm{C}>\mathrm{D}$.
