Optics 7 Question 45

46. Screen S is illuminated by two point sources A and B. Another source C sends a parallel beam of light towards point P on the screen (see figure). Line AP is normal to the screen and the lines AP,BP and CP are in one plane. The distances AP,BP and CP are in one plane. The radiant powers of sources A and B are 90W and 180W respectively. The beam from C is of intensity 20W/m2. Calculate intensity at P on the screen.

Answer:

Correct Answer: 46. (a) 15cm (b) 1.16cm (downwards) reflection of light

Solution:

  1. Resultant intensity at P

IP=IA+IB+IC=PA4π(PA)2+PB4π(PB)2cos60+ICcos60=904π(3)2+1804π(1.5)2cos60+20cos60=0.79+3.18+10=13.97W/m2
