Electrostatics 5 Question 32
34. The magnitude of electric field $\mathbf{E}$ in the annular region of a charged cylindrical capacitor
$(1996,2 M)$
(a) is same throughout.
(b) is higher near the outer cylinder than near the inner cylinder.
(c) varies as $1 / r$ where $r$ is the distance from the axis.
(d) varies as $1 / r^{2}$ where $r$ is the distance from the axis.
Show Answer
Solution:
- The magnitude of electric field at a distance $r$ from the axis is given as :
$$ E=\frac{\lambda}{2 \pi \varepsilon _0 r} \text { i.e. } E \propto \frac{1}{r} $$
Here, $\lambda$ is the charge per unit length of the capacitor.
