Solution:

By Kirchhoff’s loop rule in the given loop $A B E F A$ , we get

$\begin{aligned} 10 - (I_{1} + I_{2}) R_{1} = 0 \\ \Rightarrow 10 - (I_{1} + I_{2}) 20 = 0 \\ or I_{1} + I_{2} = \frac{1}{2} \end{aligned}$

and from loop $B C D E B$ , we get

$\begin{aligned} 10 - (I_{1} + I_{2}) R_{1} - I_{2} R_{2} & = 0 \\ \Rightarrow & 10 - (I_{1} + I_{2} + I_{2}) 20 & = 0 \\ \Rightarrow & I_{1} + 2 I_{2} & = \frac{1}{2} \end{aligned}$

From Eqs. (i) and (ii), we get

$I_{2} = 0 and I_{1} = 0.5 A$
