13. In the circuit shown below, the current in the $1 \Omega$ resistor is

(a) $1.3 A$, from $P$ to $Q$

(b) $0.13 A$, from $Q$ to $P$

(c) $0 A$

(d) $0.13 A$, from $P$ to $Q$

Solution:

Applying Kirchhoff’s loop law in loops 1 and 2 in the directions shown in figure we have

$$ \begin{array}{r} 6-3\left(i _1+i _2\right)-i _2=0 \\ 9-2 i _1+i _2-3 i _1=0 \end{array} $$

Solving Eqs. (i) and (ii) we get,

$$ i _2=0.13 A $$

Hence, the current in $1 \Omega$ resister is 0.13 A from $Q$ to $P$.
