(d) 2.0nm

Show Answer

Solution:

  1. Given, volume =10mL

Molarity =1mM=103M

Number of millimoles =10mL×103M=102

Number of moles =105

Now, number of molecules

= Number of moles × Avogadro’s number  =105×6×1023=6×1018

Surface area occupied by 6×1018 molecules =0.24cm2

Surface area occupied by 1 molecule

=0.246×1018=0.04×1018cm2

As it is given that polar head is approximated as cube. Thus, surface area of cube =a2, where

a= edge length  a2=4×1020cm2 a=2×1010cm=2pm
