Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry - Result Question 2

####2. The minimum amount of O2(g) consumed per gram of reactant is for the reaction (Given atomic mass : Fe=56, O=16,Mg=24,P=31,C=12,H=1 ) (2019 Main, 10 April II)

(a) C3H8(g)+5O2(g)3CO2(g)+4H2O(l)

(b) P4(s)+5O2(g)P4O10(s)

(c) 4Fe(s)+3O2(g)2Fe2O3(s)

(d) 2Mg(s)+O2(g)2MgO(s)

Show Answer

Solution:

 (a) C3H8(g)+5O2(g)44g3CO2(g)+4H2O(l) 1g of reactant =16044g of O2 consumed =3.64g

(b) P4(s)124g+5O2(g)160gP4O10(s)

1g of reactant =160124g of O2 consumed =1.29g

(c) 4Fe(s)+3O2(g)2Fe2O3(s)

1g of reactant =96224g of O2 consumed =0.43g

(d) 2Mg(s)48g+O2(g)32g2MgO(s)

1g of reactant =3248g of O2 consumed =0.67g

So, minimum amount of O2 is consumed per gram of reactant (Fe) in reaction (c).
