####23. The vapour pressure of a dilute aqueous solution of glucose (C6H12O6) is 750mm of mercury at 373K. Calculate (i) molality and (ii) mole fraction of the solute.

Solution:

  1. At 373K (bp) of H2O, Vapour pressure =760mm

VP of solution at 373K=750mm

p=p0χ1

or 750=760χ1

χ1=7576= mole fraction of H2O

χ2=17576=176= mole fraction of solute

Now n2n1+n2=176

n1n2=75

Molality =n2n1M1×1000=100075×18=0.74 molal
