Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: 2. (a)

Solution:

  1. Diborane (B2H6) reacts independently with O2 and H2O to produce B2O3 and H3BO3 respectively. Diborane is a colourless, highly toxic gas, having boiling point 180K. Because of its inflammable nature, it catches fire spontaneously when exposed to air and burns in oxygen releasing an enormous amount of energy as:

B2H6+3O2B2O3+3H2O+1976kJ/mol

It gets hydrolysed readily to give boric acid.

B2H6 Borane +6H2O2H3BO3 Orthoboric acid +6H2 Dihydrogen
