- In $H _2 S, S$ is $s p^{3}$-hybridised with two lone pairs of electrons on it giving V-shaped (water like) shape. In $PCl _3, P$ is $s p^{3}$-hybridised with one lone pair of electrons on it. Therefore, $PCl _3$ is pyramidal in shape.
