Chemical and Ionic Equilibrium - Result Question 44

####44. When 3.06g of solid NH4SH is introduced into a two litre evacuated flask at 27C,30 of the solid decomposes into gaseous ammonia and hydrogen sulphide.

(i) Calculate Kc and Kp for the reaction at 27C.

(ii) What would happen to the equilibrium when more solid NH4SH is introduced into the flask?

(1999,7M)

Show Answer

Solution:

  1. (i) Mole of solid NH4HS taken initially =3.0651=0.06

 At equilibrium NH4HS(s)NH3(g)+0.018H2S(g) Kc=(0.0182)2=8.1×105 p(NH3)=0.018×0.082×3002=0.22atm Kp=(0.22)2=4.84×102

(ii) Addition of solid NH4HS will have no effect on equilibrium.
