Benzene and Alkyl Benzene - Result Question 6
####7. Polysubstitutiion is a major drawback in (2019 Main, 8 April II)
(a) Friedel-Craft’s alkylation
(b) Reimer-Tiemann reaction
(c) Friedel-Craft’s acylation
(d) Acetylation of aniline

Solution:
- Through aromatic electrophilic substitution mechanism $\left(ArS _E 2\right)$ when mono-alkylation (Friedel-Craft’s reaction) is performed, we get mono-alkylated benzene. As, the alkyl group is ring activating (towards $\operatorname{ArS} _E$ 2) in nature, again $o$ - and $p$-substituted alkyl benzene will be obtained and so on. e.g.
