Work Energy And Power Question 112
Question: A body of mass $ m_1 $ moving with a velocity 3 ms?1 collides with another body at rest of mass $ m_2. $ After collision the velocities of the two bodies are 2 ms?1 and 5ms?1 respectively along the direction of motion of $ m_1 $ The ratio $ m_1/m_2 $ is [EAMCET (Engg.) 2000]
Options:
A) $ \frac{5}{12} $
B) $ 5 $
C) $ \frac{1}{5} $
D) $ \frac{12}{5} $
Show Answer
Answer:
Correct Answer: B
Solution:
If target is at rest then final velocity of bodies are $ v_1=( \frac{m_1-m_2}{m_1+m_2} )\ u_1 $ -(i)
and $ v_2=\frac{2m_1u_1}{m_1+m_2} $ -(ii)
From (i) and (ii) $ \frac{v_1}{v_2}=\frac{m_1-m_2}{2m_1}=\frac{2}{5} $ therefore $ \frac{m_1}{m_2}=5 $
