Solution:

[a] If t2 and 2t2 are the time taken by particle to cover first and second half distance, respectively, then t1=x/23=x6

x1=4.5t2 and x2=7.5t2 So, x1=x2=x24.5t2+7.5t2=x2

t2=x24 Total time t1+x2+2t2=x6+x12=x4 So, average speed 4 m/sec.
