Realme GT 6 Review: Strong Performance and Battery, But AI Needs Improvement

China’s Realme has reintroduced its GT series in India with the launch of two new smartphones. The latest model, the Realme GT 6, is a flagship device that emphasizes performance and battery life. It is also Realme’s first smartphone to feature artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. The company has dubbed it an “AI Flagship Killer.” But does it live up to this bold claim? Let’s find out.

Design

The Realme GT 6 has a design similar to the Realme GT 6T. It features a horizontal, mirror-like rectangular frame for the cameras on the back. This frame tends to show fingerprints. The back cover is made of durable plastic that resists fingerprints and scratches. The phone is comfortable to hold and use, but it can be unstable on flat surfaces and may slide on uneven ones.

The front display has curved glass with minimal bezels. The volume and power buttons are on the right side, while the bottom has a USB Type-C port, a dual SIM tray, and a speaker grille. The buttons are easy to press and reach while holding the phone.

Display

The Realme GT 6 comes with a 6.78-inch full HD AMOLED display that has a 120Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. With a 10-bit color depth and 100% P3 color gamut, the display offers professional-grade color accuracy. It also supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+, making it great for watching videos.

Audio

The phone has a stereo speaker system that delivers clear and crisp sound. However, it does not have an audio jack and only supports wireless audio devices. It offers spatial audio and supports Dolby Atmos for an enhanced audio experience.

Camera

The Realme GT 6 features a triple-camera setup: a 50-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 50MP telephoto lens, and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens. The main camera produces clear images with a shallow depth-of-field. The ultra-wide lens performs well but struggles in low light, although it maintains color consistency with the main sensor. The telephoto lens is good for portraits but delivers average-quality images in low light. The 32-megapixel front camera takes sharp selfies and is suitable for video calls. It can record videos in 4K, 1080p, and 720p at 30fps and 60fps, but struggles in low-light conditions.

Performance

Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, the Realme GT 6 offers strong performance. However, it tends to heat up even with limited daily use. The device handles everyday tasks smoothly and offers different modes like Low Power, Balance, and GT mode to optimize performance during gaming. It also supports screen recording and call blocking during gaming sessions. The battery is one of the best in its range, charging fully within an hour and lasting up to 24 hours with normal use. The phone transitions smoothly between apps without lag.

Software and AI

The Realme GT 6 runs on Android 14 with Realme UI 5.0 and comes with several pre-installed Realme and third-party apps, which can be uninstalled if not needed.

The phone includes several AI features aimed at improving the imaging experience. These include AI Smart Removal mode for removing unwanted objects from photos, AI Smart Loop for predicting actions to simplify operations, and AI Night Vision mode for enhancing visibility in dark environments. While these features work to some extent, they are still a work in progress. The quality of photos in low light is not great, and the AI Smart Removal feature is far from perfect. When editing photos with the AI Eraser, the results are not very refined. As this is Realme’s first AI smartphone, there is significant room for improvement.

Verdict

If you’re looking for a smartphone with good performance, battery life, and fast charging, the Realme GT 6 is a solid choice. However, it does not live up to its “AI Flagship Killer” tagline. The Realme GT 6 stands out for its high-end performance, impressive display, and decent camera capabilities, all at a competitive price.
