Business Part 19

Mahindra & Mahindra, India’s leading SUV manufacturer, has announced a significant milestone: the production of 200,000 units of the Mahindra XUV700. What’s remarkable is that this achievement came within just 33 months since the SUV’s launch in August 2021. To celebrate, Mahindra has introduced two new colors for the XUV700 – Deep Forest and Burnt Sienna.

The Mahindra XUV700 has been a sensation in India right from its debut. Even before its official launch, it had generated a lot of buzz and high expectations among Indian buyers. Once it hit the market, it sold rapidly. The SUV has received widespread acclaim and has won 40 prestigious awards, including the “2022 Indian Car of the Year.”

While many know that the Mahindra XUV700 is a hit, some might wonder what makes it so popular. Here are some key reasons behind its success.

Built Like a Tank

One of the main reasons for the XUV700’s success is its robust build quality. The SUV has a 5-star Global NCAP rating for adult occupant protection and a 4-star rating for child occupant protection. It was one of the first Indian cars to achieve such high ratings. Additionally, it received India’s Safest Vehicle “Safer Choice Award” for 2022. The XUV700 is equipped with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), multiple airbags, electronic stability control, tire pressure monitoring, and a high-strength monocoque chassis.

Great Value for Money

The Mahindra XUV700 has a commanding road presence due to its large size. It measures 4,695 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,755 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm and a ground clearance of 200 mm. Its sheer size and modern, sporty look have attracted many buyers in India.

Packed with Advanced Features

Another reason for the XUV700’s popularity is its modern features. When it was launched in August 2021, it was the first in its segment to offer features like Alexa Built-In Functionality, Level 2 ADAS, and Dual 26.03 cm HD Superscreens. Other notable features include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Adrenox connect with a subscription, and numerous connected car features. The 2024 update added 83 connected features, including 13 new ones like Ecosense leaderboard, M lens, and toll diary, all supported by Firmware Over-the-Air (FOTA) updates.

Luxury at an Affordable Price

Many owners consider the Mahindra XUV700 a luxury car. Mahindra has packed this SUV with almost all the features of a luxury car but at a relatively affordable price. The higher-end models come with luxury features like leatherette seats, a panoramic sunroof, and ventilated front seats. It also includes memory ORVMs and dual-zone climate control. The pricing starts at Rs 15.85 lakh for the MX variant and goes up to Rs 29.99 lakh for the top-end AX7 Luxury Pack variant. When compared in terms of features and amenities, it offers great value for money.

Options for Everyone

The Mahindra XUV700 offers a wide range of variants to cater to different buyers with varying budgets. It comes with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol engine is a 2.0-litre unit that produces 197 bhp and 380 Nm of torque, available with a 6-speed manual and automatic transmission. The diesel engine comes in two states of tune: the MX variant offers 152 bhp and 360 Nm of torque, while the AX variants provide 182 bhp and 450 Nm of torque. The diesel engine also comes with a 6-speed manual and automatic transmission. Additionally, the AX7 variants offer an optional all-wheel-drive (AWD). There is an XUV700 variant for every type of buyer.

In summary, the Mahindra XUV700’s solid build, great value for money, advanced features, luxury at an affordable price, and wide range of options make it a popular choice among Indian buyers.
