The Maruti Swift, a popular hatchback in India, has achieved a significant milestone by selling 30 lakh units in the country. Launched in 2005, the Swift has seen several updates and facelifts over the years. The latest, fourth-generation Swift, comes with new features, a refreshed design, and an updated petrol engine. Here’s a look at how the Swift reached this milestone over the years:

  • Launch: May 2005
  • 10 lakh sales: November 2013
  • 20 lakh sales: November 2018
  • 30 lakh sales: June 2024

It took the Swift nearly 8 years to reach its first 10 lakh sales in India. The next 10 lakh sales were achieved in just 5 years by November 2018. The final 10 lakh sales took around 6 years. Globally, the Swift has sold over 65 lakh units, with India being its largest market.

When the Swift was first introduced in 2005, it was priced at Rs 3.87 lakh. It quickly became popular for its stylish looks, enjoyable driving experience, and good features. In 2007, Maruti added a 1.3-litre diesel engine option, which further boosted its popularity. Although the diesel variant was discontinued in 2020 due to stricter emission norms, the Swift continued to be a top-seller in India.

Features and Amenities

The 2024 Maruti Swift is packed with modern features. It includes a 9-inch touchscreen, a 6-speaker Arkamys-tuned audio system, and automatic air conditioning with rear vents. Other features include wireless phone charging and cruise control. For safety, the Swift comes with six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), rear parking sensors, and a rear parking camera.

Engine and Transmission

The 2024 Swift is powered by a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Z series petrol engine that produces 82 PS and 112 Nm of torque. This engine is available with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT. Currently, there is no CNG option for the fourth-generation Swift, but it might be introduced in the future.

Price and Competitors

The Maruti Swift is priced between Rs 6.49 lakh and Rs 9.64 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It competes with the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and can also be considered an alternative to the Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch.
