WhatsApp Will Soon Let You Create AI Avatars in Chats Using Your Photo: Here’s How

WhatsApp users in various countries can now use the Meta AI chatbot to create images, ask for recipes, and more. Soon, the messaging app will also let you create AI-generated images of yourself. This new feature is currently being tested on Android, as reported by Wabetainfo.

How Meta AI Avatar From Your Photo Might Work

The feature is being tested with the Android beta version 2.24.14.13, which will soon be available to beta testers. As shown in the image below, a pop-up message explains how Meta AI will create your AI avatar.

“This feature allows you to take a photo of yourself once, then ask Meta AI to generate AI images of you. To create an AI image of yourself, type ‘imagine me..’ in your Meta AI chat. You can also use this feature in other chats by typing @metaAI imagine me…,” the app message explains.

First, WhatsApp will ask you to take a selfie. This photo will be analyzed to create an accurate AI avatar of you.

Some people might be concerned about their photo being readable by Meta AI, but WhatsApp assures users about the safety of this feature. The tipster mentioned that users will have full control over this feature and can delete their photos at any time through the Meta AI settings.

However, Meta has a history of privacy concerns, and this AI feature could also be vulnerable to privacy issues. Should you be worried? The note clarifies that Meta AI cannot read other messages, as the command is processed separately. The resulting image message will be automatically shared in the conversation by the app, ensuring user privacy is always protected.

Importantly, WhatsApp will not enable this feature by default. It will only work after the user gives their consent.
