Coal India Sees 8% Increase in Q1 Production
Coal India Limited has announced an 8% increase in coal production for the first quarter ending in June, reaching 189.3 million tonnes (MTs).
Details: In a statement released on Monday, the company said, “Exceeding the progressive target, CIL boosted its coal production to 189.3 million tonnes in the first quarter ending in June. This is 13.8 million tonnes more than the same period in the previous fiscal year, showing nearly 8% growth.”
In June 2024 alone, Coal India’s production rose by 9%, reaching 63 million tonnes compared to the same month last year. The company’s total supplies also grew by 6% year-on-year, amounting to 198.4 million tonnes from April to June 2024.

The company reported a 4% increase in supplies to coal-fired power plants, reaching 160 million tonnes during the quarter. Supplies to the non-power sector surged by 16%, hitting a record high for the first quarter of any year at 38.4 million tonnes.
As of June 30, the state-owned company reported a 40% increase in coal inventory at its pitheads, totaling 81.5 million tonnes. This provides a sufficient buffer to meet any sudden rise in demand.
