WhatsApp to Stop Supporting These Phones – Complete List

A recent report indicates that WhatsApp will cease to provide updates or security patches for thirty-five mobile phones from well-known brands such as Samsung, Motorola, Sony, and Apple.

As per CanalTech, the Meta-owned messaging platform has updated its minimum system requirements, which now impacts users with older phone models.

Phones Affected by the Latest WhatsApp Update:

– Apple: iPhone 5, iPhone 6, iPhone 6S, iPhone SE, and iPhone 6S Plus

– Samsung: Galaxy S3 Mini, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Ace Plus, Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy Core, Galaxy Grand, Galaxy Note 3, and Galaxy S4 Zoom, Galaxy Express 2

– Motorola: Moto X and Moto G

– Huawei: Ascend G525, Ascend P6 S, Huawei C199, Huawei GX1s, and Huawei Y625

– Lenovo: Lenovo 46600, Lenovo P70, Lenovo A858T, and Lenovo S890

– Sony: Xperia E3 and Xperia Z1

– LG: Optimus 4X HD, Optimus L7, Optimus G, and Optimus G Pro

This change in policy will notably affect users in India, particularly those with phones from brands like Huawei and LG, which no longer sell their products in the country. Despite these brands having exited the market, many people still use their phones and will now need to upgrade to newer models to keep using WhatsApp.

Reason for the Update

Smartphone manufacturers typically support their devices for only a few years, prompting apps like WhatsApp to optimize for newer software versions. WhatsApp has implemented these new requirements to ensure users have access to the latest security features and functionalities. Moving forward, the app will only support devices running Android 5.0 or later and iPhones with iOS 12 or later.
